Abstract:
Crisis phenomena are omnipresent in public debates, the subject of political agendas and their consequences are felt in the everyday lives of many people. In this panel, the authors of the scientific publication accompanying the 28th DPT ask about the role and possibility of prevention in the context of crises. Explicitly, the focus is not on a specific crisis, but on general characteristics of crisis phenomena. In this respect, the question of generalisability arises first: can an "essence" of crises be identified, circumstances and characteristics that are inherent in every crisis and can we thus learn from past crises? How do crises affect individuals and society as a whole and how can the risk of conflict in connection with crises be minimised? The discussion will also explore who is actually responsible for prevention in relation to crises (individuals, society, politics and/or communities)? And what does prevention mean here: maintaining the status quo, adaptation or resilience? These and other questions will be discussed in multiple perspectives in the panel.
