23rd German Congress on Crime Prevention opens today in Dresden

More news about the topic

The German Congress on Crime Prevention is the world's largest congress in the field of crime prevention and related prevention areas. For two days around 3000 representatives from practice, politics, science and law enforcement authorities discuss prevention strategies, measures and success factors for the prevention of crime. In 110 lectures and 44 project spots, current prevention measures are presented and implementation experiences are exchanged. In the exhibition area, around 150 information stands provide information on prevention projects and current developments in Germany and Europe. The congress is opened today by German Family Minister Dr Franziska Giffey and will conclude tomorrow with a roundtable discussion with German Justice Minister Dr Katarina Barley.

This year's the Congress focuses on violence and radicalism as a challenge for prevention work. Prof. Dr Beier's scientific report summarizes current research findings and state of the art prevention approaches on the main topic. Baier is head of the Institute for Delinquency and Crime Prevention at the University of Applied Sciences in Zurich. The report has undergone a peer review process within the framework of the Heilgenberg Talks, which were conducted in honour of Dr Wiebke Steffen, the 'grand lady' of the German-speaking prevention landscape who died last year.

Traditionally, the Programme Advisory Board of the Congress on Crime Prevention adopts a declaration with statements on key consequences arising from the annual focus topic and other topics discussed at the congresses on current developments and trends in prevention work. Both the report (in English and German) and the Dresden Declaration (only in German) can be downloaded from Congress' Website.

Hosting partners of the 23rd Congress on Crime Prevention are the Free State of Saxony, the state capital Dresden and the Saxony State Prevention Council. Permanent event partners of the German Congress on Crime Prevention are the organisations Organisations WEISSER RING, Programme Police Crime Prevention of the Federal States and the Federal Government (ProPK), German Crime Prevention Forum (DFK) and German Association for Social Work, Criminal Law and Criminal Policy (DBH).

The congress documentation will also be available shortly on the website.
