Safe Public Spaces: Streets for Kids!

More news about the topic

Applications are now open for cities to join Streets for Kids! Twelve global cities will be selected to receive either technical assistance or one-off workshops to make their streets safer and more inviting for children and their caretakers.

Streets for Kids, part of NACTO’s Global Designing Cities Initiative (GDCI), is a multi-year program to advance street designs that create safe public spaces for kids of all ages and abilities to learn, play, and move around a city.

In addition to producing design guidance for all cities, from 2019 to 2021, GDCI will work directly with practitioners in 12 selected cities to help them reimagine and redesign their streets to support comfortable, healthy, and inspiring environments for all children.

GDCI is now accepting applications from cities to join the Streets for Kids program to receive direct technical assistance or capacity-building trainings. Four cities will receive technical guidance and limited matching funds through 2021 to support the implementation of child-friendly projects, which will follow an in-depth, multi-day training, tailored to each location, on designing child-friendly streets using guidance and specifications from the forthcoming Streets for Kids design guide. Eight cities will receive similar tailored trainings.
