Law enforcement agencies have the ability to use facial recognition technology to identify, investigate, surveil, and arrest people. Despite posing unprecedented threats to civil liberties, free expression, privacy, human rights, and democratic accountability, facial recognition technology is woefully underregulated in the United States of America. A federal law would be the most powerful step to regulate the use of this invasive and dangerous technology.
