Cutting Crime Impact - International Project Cooperation during COVID-19
How can we better prevent crime and reduce its effects? The EU project "Cutting Crime Impact" (CCI) is concerned with the prevention of high-impact petty crime - such as assault, robbery or burglary - which has negative impact on citizens' feelings of security. So-called "toolkits" are being developed in the areas of predictive policing, community policing, crime prevention through urban design and planning, and the measurement and mitigation of feelings of insecurity. These tools are instruments and materials designed to provide targeted support to the work of police and law enforcement agencies.
The last months in the Corona pandemic were challenging for the CCI project, as social distancing also changes international cooperation. However, the new project newsletter reports on successful alternative events and formats as well as good project progress. After a very positive mid-term review at the project half-way point, the project partners have pushed the development and design of the toolkits. The results are currently being presented to end users and tested. Furthermore, the newsletter informs about the current work and future ideas of the project partners. Among them an article of the DPT Institute for Applied Prevention Research (DPT-I) about a planned CCI Webinar series next year. This series of online seminars will start in February 2021, DPT will soon provide further information on its website.
On the DPT-TV of this year's 25th DPT-Digital, Dr Anke Schröder from LKA Niedersachsen gave a short interview and talked to Erich Marks about the CCI project. The recording of this interview can be found on DPT´s YouTube channel.
