The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic has taken a terrible toll on lives, illness, and economic devastation and it is having diverse effects on violence and crime. Daily Prevention News publishes weekly a Corona Crime Issue dedicated to collect related news and information.

1. Impact Report: COVID-19 and Crime
   This report examines changes in crime rates in 34 American cities during calendar year 2020, with a special emphasis on homicide and other violent crimes. The current study updates previous studies by the authors with additional data through December 2020. The study was conducted by criminologist and Professor Emeritus Richard Rosenfeld and Ernesto Lopez of the University of Missouri – St. Louis and Thomas Abt, Commission Director and Council on Criminal Justice Senior Fellow. 2. Impact Report: COVID-19 and Domestic Violence Trends
   In March and April of 2020, government leaders began to impose stay-at-home orders to help contain the spread of the coronavirus. This report, by a team of researchers led by sociologist Alex R. Piquero of the University of Miami, was based on a systematic review of multiple studies that compared changes in the number of domestic violence incidents before and after jurisdictions put lockdown restrictions in place. 3. Managing work-life balance during the Covid-19 crisis
   The aim of the “Impact of COVID-19 Crisis on Work-Life Balance” survey was to learn about the impact of the pandemic on our work and daily lives. The “Working Group for Equal Opportunities” (German: Arbeitskreis Chancengleichheit, AKC) of the German Physical Society (German: Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft, DPG) strives to provide guidance to all relevant parties such as institutes, NGOs, employers, employees, and managers by sharing the results of this survey.    This playbook is designed to offer detailed, step-by-step guidance to help educators, leaders and their public health partners design and implement effective testing programs in schools. Informed by experiences from over 90 school district and public health leaders as well as a wide-range of research, evidence, and expert insights, the Playbook addresses the operational challenges and every-day realities of implementing a complex, logistical program in an easy-to-understand, practical guide. 5. Covid-19 Antigen Testing in K-12 Schools: Early Lessons from Six Pilot Sites
   New evidence from RAND Corporation and Mathematica, commissioned by The Rockefeller Foundation, finds that regular Covid-19 testing in primary and secondary educational settings is critical to getting students and teachers back to in-person instruction. The reports include early results from six K-12 testing pilots, funded by the Foundation and facilitated by a Memorandum of Understanding between the Foundation and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and an independent assessment of school testing programs across the country. The two reports provide cross-cutting considerations and implications to guide other schools and districts across the country that are considering implementing Covid-19 testing. 6. Vaccine Geopolitics Could Derail Africa’s Post-Pandemic Recovery
   If 2020 was the year of the coronavirus pandemic, then 2021 is shaping up to be the year of the vaccine. Yet rightful optimism about the arrival of coronavirus vaccines belies significant barriers to vaccine availability and access in large parts of the world. Familiar patterns of global inequities are resurfacing as the global vaccination drive gathers momentum. Moreover, intensifying geopolitical competition, especially between China and the United States, is impeding multilateral cooperation on critical issues including public health. Poorer and less influential countries, especially those in Africa, are caught in the middle—facing obstacles to accessing vaccines, with likely negative effects on their prospects for a smooth post-pandemic recovery.
