Building a common front against the digital dimension of violence against women
More news about the topic
With increasing access to the internet and ICT technologies, gender-based violence against women is no longer restricted to real-world forms of violence: there is an ever-growing digital dimension of this violation of women's human rights. Perpetrators now use technology to control or spy on the victims, blackmail them, disseminate their intimate pictures or videos, steal their identity and send them threatening or insulting messages.
The phenomenon of online and technology-facilitated violence against women is complex and far-reaching. Bringing together representatives from national governments, international organisations and civil society, this high-level side event will present initiatives and strategies to address online and technology-facilitated violence against women on the basis of existing international legal instruments. It will draw upon promising research, policies and initiatives from around the world.
The side event is organised by the Platform of Independent Expert Mechanisms on Discrimination and Violence against Women (EDVAW Platform) on the occasion of the 66th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66).
The event takes place online on March 15, 2:30 pm EST (NY time) – 7:30 pm CET (Europe time)
