Experiencing racism and discrimination in the context of the use of force by the police
More news about the topic
This evaluation analyses qualitative and quantitative data from the KviAPol1 project. It explores the experiences of people from migrant backgrounds and People of Colour (PoC) in the context of the use of force by the police in Germany. The analysis has shown that PoC and people from migrant backgrounds were affected in different ways by police violence that was perceived to be unlawful than was the case for white people or people not from migrant backgrounds.
The report comprises an online survey of persons who had experienced police violence (n=3,373) which they felt was unlawful. It also includes interviews with experts from the police and civil society (n=17). Although issues of racism and the police do not form the primary focus of the project, the survey did generate data on experiences of discrimination in the context of what was perceived to be unlawful police violence. This data is analysed here and compared with findings from recent research into the topic.
