How Volatile Temperatures Shape Violent Crime
More news about the topic
The data suggest that “urban assaults, robberies, and homicides are meaningfully associated with the temperature volatility
predicted to become more common as climate change accelerates”. This effect is independent of general seasonal variation in crime rates in these cities. The mechanism that might account for these effects is at this point unknown. However, the data suggest not only that the ‘warming’ effect of climate change could have an effect on crime, but also the volatility of the day-to-day weather will have an independent effect on violent crime rates.
