The Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence (IKG) hosts the International Conference on Conflict and Violence Research.

This event aims to explore conflict and violence from an interdisciplinary and global perspective, with a particular focus on the challenges posed by climate change. Scholars from all relevant fields are invited to present, discuss, and exchange ideas in this dynamic and collaborative forum.

The conference welcomes participation and presentations from researchers across all disciplinary backgrounds pertinent to conflict and violence research. Contributions are encouraged from scholars at all career stages, from early-career researchers to established academics. The event aspires to create a multidisciplinary platform for sharing innovative research, theoretical insights, and practical solutions on a broad array of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Societal and Intergroup Conflict: Examining disputes over resources, policy tensions, and environmental justice movements related to climate change.
  • Political Ideology, Activism, and Violence: Analyzing issues such as radicalization, polarization, and the dynamics of protests tied to climate change.
  • Global Health and Well-being: Investigating the physical and mental health impacts of climate change, challenges to health systems, and cross-border health initiatives.
  • Climate Change-Induced Migration: Exploring phenomena such as forced displacement, integration challenges, and the social, political, and economic effects on migrants and host communities.
  • Media and Communication: Understanding how media shapes public perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors regarding climate change and its related conflicts.
  • Interventions and Policies: Developing strategies to mitigate conflict and violence in the context of climate change adaptation and resilience-building.
  • Historical Perspectives: Drawing lessons from historical environmental crises and their influence on conflict and societal transformation to address present and future challenges.

The conference aims to foster an environment of collaboration where researchers can exchange ideas, build interdisciplinary partnerships, and deepen understanding of the intricate connections between climate change, conflict, and violence.

The conference will take place at Bielefeld University, Germany, from September 17th to September 19th 2025.

Abstact submission is open until February 15th.
