Dr Regina Benevides
Dr Regina Benevides has over 30 years of work experience in public health and collaboration with host country governments in the areas of adolescents and youth sexual and reproductive health (SRH), gender, community-based educational and development programs, provision of health services to underserved groups and HIV/AIDS. Currently Regina Benevides serves as Gender and Youth Team Lead at Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/Center for Global Health/Division of HIV and Tuberculosis/HIV Prevention Branch. Before joining CDC Dr Benevides was the Technical Director of Service Delivery Strengthening and Senior Youth Technical Advisor at the USAID funded E2A Global Project. Prior to this appointment, Dr Benevides was Chief of Party for the USG Mozambique Associate Award under the Extended Service Delivery project and served as Director of Operations for Pathfinder International in Mozambique and as Senior Technical Advisor for the Geração Biz Program, a national program addressing adolescents and youth SRH, HIV prevention, care and treatment, safe motherhood and fatherhood. She worked for the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Brazil coordinating the National Program of Humanization of Health Services and has extensive experience in mental health as well as an institutional analyst in organizational and teamwork. Dr Benevides has over 25 years of teaching experience as a professor of psychology in Brazil and has published numerous academic books, articles, and policy papers in peer-reviewed journals. She has led research in the fields of mental health, health service delivery models, adolescent and youth health programs.
Regina Benevides has a PhD degree in Public Health (with a specialization in health systems, service planning and management) as well as a PhD degree in Clinical Psychology with a dissertation about group dynamics in the context of healthcare. Dr Benevides has an MSc in Educational Psychology.
