Countering terrorism implies various dilemmas for the many different professions involved, from intelligence officers to social workers. This research on ethical dimensions of counterterrorism is intended to meet those dilemmas and related questions. Doing so, it can contribute to strengthening professionalism and legitimacy. The objective is to explore the potential added values of applied ethics in the field of counterterrorism. Major research questions are: What types of ethical dilemmas are counterterrorism professionals facing? What tools and instruments are available to meet those dilemmas in the daily practice? What can be the added value of applied ethics in counterterrorism to counterterrorism professionals in general and the tool of Moral Case Deliberation in particular?
