Pandemic preparedness amid COVID-19 has largely been defined and exercised in terms of public health and critical infrastructure protection for the healthcare sector. This presentation adds the civil security research perspective, drawing from homeland security, disaster research, and risk management. The presentation reviews exemplary response sets to COVID-19 in the U.S., based on prevention and preparedness goals as well as crisis management strategies. It concludes in lessons learned from a public policy perspective and recommendations for comprehensive pandemic preparedness and catastrophic crisis management.
